Moto Twelve National Sportbike Championship R9 Race Report
Every storm has a silver lining
The team headed to Oulton Park for the 9th round of the 2025 National Sportbike Championship.
The weather for the weekend was not looking promising, with Storm Amy headed straight for the UK. Despite this the team were in high spirits and looking forward to the possibility of a top 5 finish.
It was an early start on Friday morning for the first practice session of the weekend. Despite track conditions, the team were pleased with the results seeing Nixon in 6th and Davie in 10th position. The second practice session was wet and windy on Friday afternoon. Davie overcame the tricky conditions, and had an incredible session on the CFMOTO machine, finishing in 2nd place, just behind O’Gorman. Unfortunately, Nixon didn’t have as good a session. The unpleasant track conditions resulted in an incident which stopped him from progressing further in the session, finishing in 20th place.
Combined free practice sessions saw both riders in the top ten, ahead of Saturdays qualifying. With the stormy conditions, the team were pleased with this result.
The weather at Oulton Park worsened on Saturday morning, resulting in BSB Officials making the decision to cancel the Qualifying session for the Sportbike class. This was disappointing news, but the safety of the riders must come first. Combined practice results would make up the grid places for the race. However, due to penalty points from the previous round, Davie had to start the race from 40th on the grid.
The race didn’t start well for Nixon, who crashed out on the first lap, resulting in a trip to the medical centre. Fortunately he obtained no serious injuries and is hoping to make a full recovery for the final round of the season at Brands in two weeks time.
Despite starting from the back of the grid, Davie made outstanding progress throughout the race and in the first lap alone made up over 10 positions. As the race progressed, his consistent lap times and experience saw him continue to progress through the pack. His fast paced lap times were testament to his skill, and could have seen him in the top 5 if he had started from further up the grid.
From starting 40th on the grid, Davie finished the race in 18th position, a silver lining to a stormy weekend.
Eddie Roberts, Racing Director comments: “That was one of the toughest weekends that I have ever experienced, not just for Sportbike but for all classes and unfortunately Sportbike drew the short straw regarding the weather. In free practice both riders showed pace, in the very wet session Adon was on top form. Both riders said the bikes were performing better than ever, consequently they were both looking forward to the race. Jack was very unfortunate and took a tumble at turn 1 lap 1, he was hi-sided and hurt his back. He was taken to the medical centre and had x-rays. The doctor was confident he would be ok, but to be sure he needed further investigation. Jack was later transferred to Crewe for more scans which thankfully have shown nothing too serious.”
“Adon had to start from the back of the grid due to a penalty after Donington. From 40th on the grid, he rode really well to pull through to 18th especially after 2 laps behind the safety car and yellow flags on the final lap meant overtakes would be limited.”
“Our thoughts are with Jack, wishing him a speedy recovery. Brands in a couple of weeks for the final round. Lets hope that Jack can be fit and ready and that we get some better weather.”
